According to the Madisonville Police Department, Richard Charles Johnson was indicted following a five-month investigation into the death of 43-year-old pedestrian Larry Lee Anthony Holtzclaw. Police say Holtzclaw was struck around 11:30 p.m. on September 16, 2025, along Oak Grove Road near Lincoln Drive. He was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Investigators worked closely with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab and the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office to build the case. Authorities reported that detectives gathered substantial evidence, including video footage and technical data, which was presented to a grand jury. Johnson was indicted for leaving the scene of an accident involving death. He was booked into the Monroe County Justice Center on January 13, 2026, with a bond set at $50,000.
Cases like this can leave families facing not only emotional hardship but also immediate practical concerns. When a loved one passes away unexpectedly, surviving relatives may need to address financial matters, property distribution, and outstanding obligations while legal proceedings continue. In many situations, proactive estate planning—or the absence of it—can significantly impact how smoothly those matters are handled.
Unexpected events underscore the importance of planning ahead. Working with our Madisonville estate planning lawyers can help individuals create clear, legally sound plans that guide their loved ones through difficult times. Thoughtful estate planning allows families to focus on healing rather than experiencing confusion over assets or final wishes.
Through carefully drafted documents prepared by our will and trust lawyers, individuals can specify how property should be distributed, appoint guardians for minor children, and name trusted decision-makers. These steps can reduce uncertainty and minimize disputes among surviving relatives. Without a valid will or trust in place, estates may pass through intestate succession, which can delay distribution and create additional stress.
For those seeking to avoid probate complications, our living trust lawyers assist clients in establishing revocable living trusts that allow assets to transfer more efficiently. Trust-based planning can provide privacy and continuity, particularly when families want to streamline administration. In circumstances where a loved one has already passed, our probate counselors help guide executors and beneficiaries through court-supervised estate administration, making sure that deadlines are met and legal requirements are satisfied.
Our team of Madisonville estate planning attorneys works closely with individuals and families to develop personalized strategies tailored to their goals and financial circumstances. Whether drafting foundational documents or updating existing plans after life changes, we aim to provide clarity and long-term stability.
