What Documents Should I Include in an Estate Plan?
May 14, 2025
I advise that a basic estate plan in Tennessee typically includes four essential documents. First, the Last Will and Testament lets you decide who inherits your assets and who will care for your minor children. Without it, state law controls those decisions. Second, a Durable Financial Power of Attorney allows someone you trust to manage your finances if you’re incapacitated. Third, a Health Care Power of Attorney enables you to appoint someone to make medical decisions on your behalf if you can’t. Fourth, a Living Will, or Advance Directive, outlines your preferences for end-of-life care, such as life support and feeding tubes. These documents work together to ensure your wishes are honored and to ease the burden on your loved ones. Additionally, more than 80% of my clients choose to include a Revocable Living Trust in their plan. Please give us a call if you have any questions.
